chad001Charles Meacham is an American photographer living and working from Taipei, Taiwan, and  has been in the photography profession for the past 6 years. Charles started out with travel photography but considers himself to be more of a photojournalist. Many of Charles’ pictures are taken while traveling, but the photographer handles two main subjects – India’s Sikh culture and Taiwan’s motorcycle sub-culture with an inherent passion.

“I can’t stop my Sikh project because there is still so much of their story to tell. The Sikh community has treated me so well. I feel I would be failing them if I stopped. And no one was photographing the motorcycle scene here in Taiwan. The story is not just about bikes and riding fast, but also of the motorcycle culture here and the people who are so involved in it. Once you photograph motorcycles everything else just seems slow”, the dedicated photographer tells us.

Charles’ talent has been recognized by a number of awards ever since he started photographing in 2002. Some of the awards he has won so far are: 2009 PX3 People’s Choice Pro Portrait Culture - First Place, 2007 Travel Photographer of the Year - Finalist, 2007 National Geographic Traveler’s 19th Annual Photography Contest - Merit Award, 2007 Color Awards - Nomination, 2005 Palm Springs Photography Festival - Finalist, and 2003 National Geographic Traveler’s 15th Annual Photography Contest - First Place, to name a few.

A collection of Charles’ travel photos including those that capture Charles’ passion in Taiwan’s bike culture and the Sikh community in India can be viewed below.

Charles’ current photography pack: Canon 5D, Canon 16-35 2.8L, Canon 24-70 2.8L, and a Canon 70-200 2.8L

  1. Hi,
A very good collection of photography. I appriciate your wonderful sense regarding light and shadow. The rich colour adds nice effect and excellent grip in photography.
    Great effort, keep it up.

  3. Partha,

Thanks. Perhaps we can grab a cup of chai when I am back in India. Your images, of course, are excellent.

    Cheers,

    Charles
